| The Manly Pad Legacy // I moved into Tremont, Cleveland OH, around 1987 because of the affordable housing. I bought a dilapidated storefront with a small house in the back for $ 14,000. The condition of my new studio was so foul, no sane person would enter. Thus the name, "THE MANLY PAD". The Manly Pad at 2490 Professor St. has been part of the Tremont Art Walk since its inception. The main focus of my work is to be influenced by life. Whether I am creating a portrait or landscape, I work from live sittings. ( The exception would be Surreal subject matter such as Hidden Danger, which required reference matireal. | Figure studies // While attending Cooper School of Art in Cleveland OH, I developed an appreciation for the old masters style of drawing. This has been a technique and style that I still draw from and has formed a base from which my later portraiture work has derived. I still avidly enjoy working from live sittings of the figure and the challenge this type of art presents to my career. Many of my portraits begin as conte' figure studies and are later developed with color and backgrounds to create a finished work. I believe that from the strict discipline of figure studies my work has been able to continually develop and grow. |

| Landscapes and Surreal // My landscapes and surreal paintings deal mostly with the enviorment that I live in and how I percieve it. These paintings are of the surrounding Tremont area, of buildings, people and the life of this neighborhood. Many of my paintings take a subject of interest within the Tremont district and with some creative additions portray a recognizable yet surreal and engaging world. As my figure studies delve from my appreciation for the old masters style, my oil paintings are influenced by my interest in the impressionist painters use of color and technique. |

| Portraits // My art deals greatly with engaging with people and collaboration with both the subject and other talented artists. My portraits are meant to create a sense of the person rather than just their image on paper or canvas, to extract a sense of who they are, their likes and livelyhood etc. An intriguing portrait draws from both the artist and subjects' sense of themselves and the enviorment around them, and this is where creativity plays its role in all of my portraiture. My doors are always open during the Tremont Art Walk evenings, and I occasionally do portraits or discuss any contract work during these hours. Feel free to stop in and browse around as this site contains only a small selection of my work. |
